Some jobs need flexibility and shock absorption, others demand raw strength or resistance to heat and abrasion, and the right answer usually comes down to material. Our rigging slings fall into two broad camps: synthetic slings, which flex and conform to a load, and metal slings, built for raw durability in the harshest conditions. Within those camps, five core types cover nearly every application: nylon, polyester, plasma®, wire rope, and chain. A few designs, like the \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/Eye-Eye-Slings-Type-3-Flat\"\u003eeye and eye sling\u003c\/a\u003e and the \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/Endless-Polyester-Round\"\u003eendless sling\u003c\/a\u003e, are available in both nylon and polyester, so the construction style isn't locked to a single material either.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhatever the lift, every sling we carry is built from top-quality materials, USA-made where it counts, so you're never choosing between the right sling and the right quality.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eSynthetic Slings\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSynthetic slings trade the rigidity of metal for flexibility, lighter weight, and, in many cases, better protection for the load itself.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eNylon\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003ca href=\"\/collections\/Nylon-Bridle-Slings\"\u003eNylon slings\u003c\/a\u003e are dense and strong, but pliable enough to conform around the object they're lifting, which makes nylon the material of choice for delicate or finished equipment. That same pliability comes with stretch: nylon gives about 6-8% at length, enough to rule it out for some applications. It also absorbs liquids readily, so acid exposure can weaken the webbing over time. Every nylon sling uses industrial-grade webbing rated at 9,800 lbs. per inch, tagged with working load limits across hitch types.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003ePolyester\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003ca href=\"\/collections\/Polyester-Round-Slings\"\u003ePolyester round slings\u003c\/a\u003e share nylon's tough, web-like construction but stretch far less, about 3%, making polyester the pick when strength matters more than give. It also holds up where nylon can't, standing up to bleaching agents and acids without losing strength. Construction is classified by wire count per strand and strand count around the core; a 6x37 wire rope, for instance, runs 6 strands of 37 wires. More wires mean better flexibility and kink resistance but more vulnerability to abrasion, while fewer, thicker wires push the other way: larger diameter, better abrasion resistance, less flexibility. Durability is the headline here, but that doesn't excuse skipping inspection. Abuse or misuse still damages wire rope in ways that compromise safety. Every wire rope sling we carry is made to order.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eChain\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eChain slings, also called crane slings or crane lifting straps, are built for the toughest environments and duty cycles. They shrug off both cutting and abrasion, and hold full lifting capacity up to 400°F (204°C) without losing strength. Grade 80 alloy steel is the industry standard, but Grade 100 is catching on fast, delivering about 25% more strength per chain diameter at a lighter weight; every chain sling we carry is available in Grade 100 by request. Chain also offers the widest range of custom configurations of any sling type, including single leg, double leg, basket, double basket, endless basket, and double endless designs.
