Description

The Simpson Strong-Tie® Strong-Drive® SDWH Timber-Hex Screw is built for big jobs where strength, holding power, and reliability matter. With a rugged hex-head design, these screws are easy to drive and deliver code-approved performance in structural and general-purpose wood framing applications.

Whether you’re building decks, framing heavy timber, or tackling a DIY project, the SDWH Timber-Hex gives you the muscle you need with features that make installation faster and cleaner. A bold thread design pulls wood members tightly together, while the SawTooth® point starts quickly and eliminates predrilling in most applications. The large washer head maximizes clamping force, and the double-barrier coating offers corrosion resistance on par with hot-dip galvanization, making it suitable for many exterior and treated wood uses.

Key Features

  • Cleaner Finish – Underhead nibs let the head countersink smoothly with less splintering.
  • Maximum Clamping Force – Large 0.650" washer head provides superior bearing area.
  • Hex-Head Drive – 5/16" hex drive for easy installation (replacement bit: BITHEXR516-R1).
  • Durable Protection – Double-barrier coating offers corrosion resistance equal to hot-dip galvanization, approved for certain exterior and treated wood uses.
  • Code-Compliant – Listed in IAPMO UES ER-192; meets 2018, 2021, and 2024 IRC and IBC code requirements.

Surprisingly strong

I just completed a project that required these screws to be used in oak 6x6 timbers. We used over 700 and only broke one. I was also impressed by the bits supplied in the box. Of the 6 supplied (two per box) we only used 2. All around great experience with this product. Make sure you have plenty of drill power to install. I used a Milwaukee 3/4" right angle drill.
