Shop Concrete Screws for Concrete, Brick & Block
Concrete screws, also called masonry screws, are essential fasteners for attaching materials to concrete, brick, block, and other hard base materials. Whether you're mounting electrical boxes, furring strips, conduit, or structural fixtures, these screws provide a reliable, direct-drive solution, no anchors needed.
When to Use Concrete Screws
Concrete screws are ideal when speed and strength are critical. These fasteners are commonly used in:
- Mounting to concrete slabs or cinder block walls
- Installing electrical and plumbing systems
- Framing interior walls in basements or garages
- Securing fixtures or supports to masonry surfaces
Unlike traditional anchors, concrete screws bite directly into the base material, reducing prep time and labor costs while providing excellent holding power.
Types of Masonry Screws
Blue Concrete Screws
While Tapcon is the well-known brand in this category, all of our blue masonry screws are phosphate-coated for corrosion resistance and commonly used in interior and light-duty exterior applications. The bright blue finish makes them easy to spot during inspection or future maintenance.
Stainless Steel Masonry Screws
Need screws that stand up to the harshest conditions? Stainless steel masonry screws are the top choice for coastal environments, food production facilities, or animal housing, where rust isn’t just unsightly, it’s a liability.
Large Diameter Concrete Screws
For structural or high-load applications, large diameter masonry screws offer higher tensile and shear values. They're perfect for securing heavier assemblies into thick masonry or concrete walls.
White Concrete Screws
Designed to blend in with light-colored surfaces, these screws offer clean aesthetics for applications like trim, fixture mounting, or decorative hardware on painted concrete or block walls.
Bronze Concrete Screws
With a rich bronze finish, these screws add visual appeal while maintaining performance. Use in areas with exposed fasteners: signage, lighting fixtures, or decorative railing systems where matching finish matters.
Rod Hanger Masonry Screws
Rod hanger screws make it easy to suspend threaded rod systems directly from concrete or masonry. These fasteners are often used for HVAC, cable trays, sprinkler systems, and conduit runs, delivering a secure, overhead anchoring solution without pre-drilled anchors or inserts.
How to Install Masonry Screws
- Drill the pilot hole: Use a carbide-tipped bit and hammer drill. Hole size and depth should match manufacturer specs.
- Clean the hole: Blow out dust using compressed air or a nylon brush.
- Drive the screw: Use an impact or drill driver to seat the screw flush. Avoid over-torquing to protect threads and base material.
Installation is quick and efficient, most screws require no additional hardware or anchor sleeves.
Concrete Screw FAQs
Do I need a hammer drill for installation?
Yes. For most base materials like poured concrete or CMU block, a hammer drill ensures the correct pilot hole size and depth for safe embedment.
What size pilot hole should I drill?
This depends on the screw diameter. Many screws use a smaller bit than the diameter of the screw - for eexample a 1/4" masonry screws use a 3/16" bit - but some use the same size. Always check the manufacturer's specs for best performance.
Are these screws reusable?
Many of them can be reused one time, give more flexibility in installation than other types of concrete anchors. However, some may not be reused, so be sure to check manufacturer's guidelines.
Can I use these in drywall or wood?
Masonry screws are specifically engineered for hard base materials. For wood or drywall, use wood screws or toggle anchors instead.
