Galvanized Wire Rope - Steel Core
Drawn Galvanized Steel Wire Rope
Drawn galvanized steel wire rope combines the strength of carbon steel with a protective zinc coating, making it a reliable choice for outdoor and industrial applications where corrosion resistance is important. Common uses include agriculture, construction, utility work, material handling, erosion control, and general rigging. Manufactured to meet Federal Specification RR-W-410 and ASTM A1023 requirements, this wire rope delivers dependable performance in demanding environments.
Compared to bright steel wire rope, galvanized wire rope offers improved protection against rust and weather exposure while remaining more economical than stainless steel. It provides an excellent balance of durability, corrosion resistance, and value for many general-purpose applications.
Benefits of Drawn Galvanized Wire Rope
Drawn galvanized wire rope is produced by galvanizing the individual wires before they are drawn to their finished size. This process maintains the rope's strength while creating a tightly bonded zinc coating that resists cracking, peeling, and flaking during normal use.
Unlike electro-galvanized wire rope, drawn galvanized constructions retain the same breaking strength as comparable bright wire rope while providing improved long-term corrosion resistance. The result is a wire rope that performs reliably in outdoor environments without sacrificing strength.
Selecting the Right Wire Rope Construction
Two of the most common constructions are 6x19 and 6x37. The 6x19 construction offers excellent abrasion resistance and is well suited for applications where durability is the priority. The 6x37 construction contains more individual wires, providing increased flexibility for applications that require frequent bending over sheaves or drums.
Both constructions are manufactured from Extra Improved Plowed Steel (EIPS) with an Independent Wire Rope Core (IWRC), delivering high strength, excellent crush resistance, and suitability for overhead lifting when used in accordance with applicable standards and safe rigging practices.
