HU/HUS Heavy Duty Face Mount Joist Hangers – Maximum-Capacity Joist Connections

The Simpson Strong-Tie HU and HUS series are the heavy-duty tier of face mount hangers, built for solid sawn timber, I-joists, glulam, and structural composite lumber (SCL) alike. Between the two families and their range of sizes, you'll find a model rated for nearly any framing member on the jobsite.
HU vs. HUS: What's the Difference?
- HU hangers are Simpson's do-it-all heavy-duty connector. Most models have both round and triangle nail holes, so you can fill just the round holes for standard capacity or fill both for maximum rated load, all from the same part.
- HUS hangers use double-shear nailing across the board. That spreads each nail's load across two points, which means fewer fasteners, faster installs, and higher allowable loads than a standard connector of the same size.
Because this family spans solid sawn dimensional lumber, timbers, I-joists, and SCL/glulam, not every model fits every framing member. Check the product page for the specific joist or beam size before ordering. Many sizes (like the 6x10, 6x12, and 4x12 hangers) are rated for both a solid sawn member and a same-width engineered beam, so one part covers both.

Installation Guide for HU/HUS Hangers
- Position the hanger against the header or beam at the height your joist calls for.
- Fasten the hanger to the header with the fasteners specified for that model. HUS hangers use double-shear nailing, so don't bend or remove the nailing tabs.
- For HU hangers rated for maximum load, fill both the round and triangle holes. For standard load, round holes only.
- Set the joist or I-joist into the hanger and fasten through the flanges.
