Description
Sealtite ZXL Tapping Woodbinder screws are designed to attach metal roofing & siding to wood purlins on post-frame & residential metal roof applications. These tapping screws work well as rescue screws for older, rundown structures. Coated screws feature a tough 2.5 mils of powder coating that will not chalk or fade due to the UV inhibitor in all colored coatings. 5/16" cupped CHWH with a molded ZAMAC 5 Zinc-Aluminum alloy provides lifetime protection against red rust on the head & washer. The ZAMAC 5 alloy provides more strength than more common ZAMAC 3 alloy. You may obtain a free copy of the written warranty upon request. Washer face design helps to capture rubber EPDM washer even when driven at an angle. Threads transition from fine to coarse to generate superior holding strength in various wood substrates. Sharp point with pronounced lead thread consistently drills high-tensile 16 gauge steel with no “point walking".

Head strips out on every 1 in 4 with an impact, every 1 in 20 without

There is an up-front cost premium to using this product because of what seems to be a superior design. BUT: In perfect conditions, these screws could work but installers aren't the designers of this product. If they were, they would tell you that the metal of the head is too soft (aluminum - Zinc alloy to prevent "red rust" - strips out every 1 in 4 with an impact, every 1 in 20 without ) and to install with a drill requires babying each screw as well as charging the drill twice as much (up and down ladders), driving up your labor costs. All in all, the upfront premium of the screw itself plus the increased labor cost plus scrap makes these screws cost prohibitive over competing products. I.e., good marketing but they fail in the real world.
