Description

5/16" 7x19 Aircraft Cable | 316 Stainless

This 5/16" type 316 stainless steel 7x19 aircraft cable is engineered for maximum corrosion resistance and long-term durability in demanding environments. Commonly used for marine rigging, cable railing systems, pulleys, winches, and general-purpose applications, the 7x19 construction delivers excellent flexibility and fatigue resistance for applications involving repeated movement and bending.

Note: Despite the name, aircraft cable is not intended for aircraft use. Before using this cable for critical overhead lifting applications, consult a qualified rigging professional.

Marine-Grade Stainless Cable for Outdoor & Corrosive Environments

Manufactured from type 316 stainless steel, this aircraft cable offers the highest level of corrosion resistance available in standard stainless cable. The addition of molybdenum enhances protection against rust, saltwater exposure, and harsh environmental conditions, making it an ideal choice for marine, coastal, and outdoor installations. While type 316 is slightly less strong than type 304 stainless steel, it remains the preferred option when corrosion resistance is the primary concern.

How Does Aircraft Cable Differ From Wire Rope?

Aircraft cable is generally available in diameters up to 3/8", while traditional wire rope is commonly produced in diameters exceeding 2". Aircraft cable is designed with smaller individual wires and a higher strand count, resulting in greater flexibility and improved fatigue resistance.

7x19 Steel Cable Configuration

This aircraft cable features a 7x19 construction. These numbers refer to the cable's design, consisting of seven total strands, including the core strand, with approximately 15-26 wires per strand. Six outer strands are wrapped around a central strand to create a highly flexible cable capable of handling repeated bending and movement.

Accessories & More

Complete your aircraft cable assembly with compatible wire rope fittings and rigging hardware. We carry a variety of type 316 stainless steel accessories, including wire rope clips, turnbuckles, and eye bolts, to help you create a secure and dependable cable system. For optimal corrosion resistance and long-term performance, we recommend using type 316 stainless steel components throughout your assembly, as mixing different materials or finishes can increase the risk of galvanic corrosion.
