For face-mounted connections between beams and masonry or concrete walls, there is the Simpson MBHU Masonry Beam Face-Mount Hanger. The MBHU is a one-piece, non-welded connector that may be used with both trusses and solid engineered wood beams. Because the Strong-Drive® SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screws and Titen HD® heavy-duty screw anchor are provided with the hanger, installation is made simpler. It is simpler to locate the Titen HD anchor in the proper location than it would be with cast-in-place bolts because it is installed after the wall is constructed.

The MBHU hangers are now offered in Type 316 stainless steel, which offers a High/Severe level of corrosion resistance, and are delivered in kits with the Type 316 stainless steel fasteners paired with the appropriate anchors.

Use all specified fasteners. Verify that the header can take the fasteners specified in the table.

• Attach hanger to a concrete or grout-filled CMU wall using Titen HD anchors. Note the following:
• Drill holes using drill bits equal in diameter to the specified Titen HD anchor.
• Holes shall be drilled 1/2" deeper than the specified Titen HD length (i.e. 5 1/2" for a 5"-long Titen HD anchor).
• Caution: Oversized holes in the base material will reduce or eliminate the mechanical interlock of the threads with the base material and will reduce the anchor's load capacity.
• Carbon-steel Titen HD is not recommended for exposed exterior applications.
• Provide moisture barrier between beam and wall per jurisdictional requirements.
