Tow Dolly Basket Straps
Tow dolly basket straps secure a vehicle’s tires to a tow dolly during transport. Also called car dolly straps or tow dolly wheel straps, these tie-down assemblies fit over and around the tire to help limit vehicle movement without attaching directly to the axle or frame.
Many basket straps offer an adjustable design that accommodates a range of tire sizes. The correct fit depends on the tire dimensions, tow dolly configuration, end fittings, and required working load limit.
Tow Dolly Strap Construction
These tow dolly straps are made with 2" industrial-grade polyester webbing for strength, support, and minimal stretch during transport. The webbing has a 12,000 lb. strength rating and is paired with durable hardware for repeated car-hauling use.
The webbing strength is not the same as the working load limit of the completed strap. Always use the working load limit listed for the full assembly when determining whether a strap is suitable for your vehicle.
Tow Dolly Wheel Strap Options
End Fittings
Car dolly straps are available with different end fittings to accommodate various tow dolly attachment points. Common options include:
-
Flat hooks: Designed to connect to compatible flat anchor points on the tow dolly.
-
Snap hooks: Feature a closing mechanism that helps the hook remain attached to a compatible anchor point.
Single- and Double-Fitting Designs
Choose between single- and double-fitting configurations based on the anchor layout and strap setup required by your tow dolly. Confirm that every fitting properly engages the intended attachment point before transporting the vehicle.
How to Choose Tow Dolly Straps
Consider the following factors when selecting replacement basket straps or outfitting a tow dolly:
-
Tire size: Measure the tire to confirm that the basket section will fit securely over the tread and sidewalls.
-
Adjustment range: Make sure the strap can be properly positioned and tensioned around the tire.
-
End-fitting style: Match the flat hook, snap hook, or other fitting to the tow dolly’s anchor points.
-
Connection configuration: Verify whether the tow dolly requires a single- or double-fitting strap design.
-
Working load limit: Check the rating of the complete strap assembly and follow the tow dolly manufacturer’s securement instructions.
How to Measure for a Tow Dolly Strap
Do not select a tow dolly strap based only on the vehicle’s make and model. Tire dimensions can vary by trim level, wheel package, and aftermarket modifications. Measure the tire and compare those dimensions with the strap’s specified fit range before ordering.
A properly sized basket should sit securely around the tire without contacting sharp edges or creating an unstable fit. After tensioning, check that the webbing is centered, the hardware is fully engaged, and the strap is not twisted.
Additional Auto Tie-Down Equipment
Complete your vehicle securement setup with wheel nets, axle straps, replacement tie-down hardware, and other auto tie-down straps. Inspect all webbing, stitching, hooks, ratchets, and attachment points before each trip, and replace any component showing cuts, excessive wear, deformation, or corrosion.
