Axle Tie-Down Straps for Vehicle Transport

Axle tie-down straps provide a secure connection between a vehicle and the anchor points on a trailer or transport truck. These professional-grade auto tie-downs are designed for car haulers, towing professionals, dealerships, motorsports teams, and individuals transporting vehicles.

Vehicle tie-down straps are available in several configurations to accommodate different vehicles, trailers, and securement preferences. The right option depends on the vehicle's approved attachment points, ground clearance, wheel-well space, and trailer anchor locations.

How Axle Straps Work

Axle straps wrap around a suitable vehicle axle or manufacturer-approved securement point and connect to a compatible ratchet strap or tie-down assembly. This creates a secure attachment without placing metal hooks directly against the vehicle.

These straps are made with industrial-grade polyester webbing rated at a 12,000-pound break strength. This rating applies to the webbing and should not be confused with the working load limit of the completed assembly. Always follow the working load limit shown on the product tag.

Choosing an Axle Strap

Select a strap with the appropriate length, end fittings, and working load limit for the vehicle and transport setup. Before installation, confirm that the chosen attachment point is approved for tie-down use and that the strap will not contact brake lines, wiring, sharp edges, hot surfaces, or other vulnerable components.

Wheel Straps and Other Auto Tie-Down Options

Wheel straps secure a vehicle by its tires instead of wrapping around the axle. They are a practical option for low-clearance vehicles, including sports cars and other vehicles with limited access underneath the frame.

A typical wheel strap assembly fits closely around or over the tire and connects to compatible trailer anchor points. An integrated or separate ratchet tensions the webbing to help limit vehicle movement during transit.

Measure the tire and review the trailer's anchor-point locations before selecting a wheel strap. Tire width, diameter, wheel-well clearance, and the distance between anchor points can all affect fit.

Additional Vehicle Securement Equipment

Other auto-hauling options include wheel nets, tow dolly basket straps, ratchet straps, replacement straps, and tie-down hardware. Choose components that are compatible with one another and rated for the vehicle and securement method.

Vehicle Tie-Down Safety

  • Inspect all webbing, stitching, hardware, and ratchets before each use.
  • Remove straps with cuts, burns, fraying, damaged stitching, or deformed hardware from service.
  • Use only manufacturer-approved vehicle securement points.
  • Keep webbing away from sharp edges, moving parts, hot surfaces, and vehicle components that could be damaged.
  • Confirm that hooks and fittings are fully seated in compatible trailer anchor points.
  • Never exceed the working load limit of the strap or any component in the assembly.
  • Check strap tension after the vehicle has traveled a short distance and periodically throughout the trip.
