3" and 4" Polyester Webbing for Heavy-Duty Straps
When 2" webbing is not enough, 3" and 4" polyester webbing is where heavy-load strap building starts. These wide, high-strength rolls are used for large ratchet straps, 4" winch straps, and other heavy-duty securement assemblies on flatbeds, lowboys, and equipment haulers. Because polyester stretches very little, a strap tends to hold its tension instead of slackening under a heavy load.
Choose from three options: 3" at 18,000 lbs. break strength, 4" at 20,000 lbs., and 4" extra strength at 24,000 lbs. Each is sold per linear foot or in 300' rolls.
Compare the Three Options
| Option | Break strength | Colors |
|---|---|---|
| 3" Polyester Webbing | 18,000 lbs. | Blue, green, red, yellow |
| 4" Polyester Webbing | 20,000 lbs. | Black, blue, green, red, yellow |
| 4" Extra Strength Polyester Webbing | 24,000 lbs. | See product listing |
Pick the width that fits your hardware, then the strength that fits the job. Wide webbing spreads its grip over more surface area, which can be gentler on the load than a narrow strap, but the buckle, ratchet, and hooks still decide what the finished strap can do.
Rating the finished strap
The figures above are break strengths for new, unused webbing, not working loads. A finished strap is rated lower, and that rating comes from the complete assembly, including hardware and stitching. Heavy loads leave little room for guesswork, so confirm the manufacturer's ratings and any DOT or site requirements before you use a strap you built.
What You Can Build
- Webbing for 3" ratchet straps and 4" ratchet straps
- 4" winch straps for flatbed and heavy freight
- Replacement webbing for worn heavy-duty straps
- Custom-length straps for machinery, steel, lumber, and oversized loads
Add tie down hardware made for the width you choose. For more flatbed gear, browse flatbed trailer products. Prefer to buy a finished strap? Check replacement tie down straps.
Protect Wide Webbing From Hard Edges
Heavy loads usually mean sharp corners: steel plate, machinery frames, crated freight. Edges can cut or fray webbing quickly under tension, so pad contact points and use a wear sleeve where the strap bends over a corner. Inspect the full length before every use and retire any webbing that is cut, frayed, burned, or melted.
Choosing the Right Width
Lighter jobs call for 1" polyester webbing or 2" polyester webbing. The full polyester cargo webbing collection puts all widths side by side. If your application needs stretch to cushion a shock load, such as recovery work, look at nylon webbing. If the load calls for chain, browse transport chain and binders.
Overhead lifting is a different job. Use a sling that has been manufactured and rated for it, not webbing cut from a roll.
Ordering Notes
Per-foot ordering suits repairs, trial builds, and one-off straps. A 300' spool makes sense if you assemble heavy-duty straps regularly and want the same material on hand each time. Wide rolls are heavy and bulky, so plan storage and handling before you order a full spool.
3" and 4" Polyester Webbing FAQs
What is the difference between 4" and 4" extra strength webbing?
Both are 4" wide. The extra strength option has a higher break strength, 24,000 lbs. compared with 20,000 lbs. Check your hardware rating before you choose.
Can I buy 3" or 4" webbing by the foot?
Yes. Each of the three can be ordered as the exact footage you need or as a full 300' roll.
Do I need special hardware for 3" and 4" webbing?
Yes. Buckles, ratchets, and hooks are made for specific webbing widths, so pick hardware that matches the width you buy.
Can I secure a load equal to the break strength?
No. Plan around the rating of the finished strap, which is lower than the webbing's break strength and is set by the whole assembly.
