Polyester Cargo Webbing for Tie Downs and Custom Straps
Polyester cargo webbing is the strap material most shops reach for when the job is holding a load in place. It has low stretch, so cargo stays put once it is tensioned, and it is a common base for ratchet straps, cam straps, winch straps, and E-track straps. If you are building a strap, repairing one, or replacing webbing on a worn assembly, this is the collection to shop.
Every roll here is 1" to 4" wide. Order it by the linear foot for repairs and small builds, or by the 300' roll when you cut straps to length on a regular basis.
Where Polyester Webbing Works Best
Polyester handles sun, moisture, and rubbing better than most strap materials, which makes it a practical pick for equipment that lives outdoors or gets used every day. Common builds include:
- Ratchet straps and cam straps for trailers, trucks, and flatbeds
- Winch straps cut to match your winch and hook style
- E-track and L-track straps
- ATV, UTV, and equipment tie downs
- Tow straps, where a firm pull is wanted instead of a stretchy one
- Cargo nets and general-purpose utility straps
To finish a strap, add matching tie down hardware: ratchets, cam buckles, flat hooks, or wire hooks. If you would rather start with a complete strap, shop ratchet straps and tie downs, winch straps, or E-track straps.
Choose Your Width and Break Strength
Wider webbing generally carries a higher break strength, and some widths come in more than one strength. Pick the width that matches your hardware first, then choose the strength your build calls for.
| Width | Break strength | Colors |
|---|---|---|
| 1" | 4,500 lbs. | Black, blue, gray, green, orange, purple, red, white, yellow, olive drab, camo |
| 2" | 6,000 lbs. | Black, blue, gray, red, yellow |
| 2" | 12,000 lbs. | Black, blue, green, orange, red, white, yellow, olive drab, camo |
| 3" | 18,000 lbs. | Blue, green, red, yellow |
| 4" | 20,000 lbs. | Black, blue, green, red, yellow |
| 4" extra strength | 24,000 lbs. | See product listing |
Prefer to browse by size? Go straight to 1" polyester webbing, 2" polyester webbing, or 3" and 4" polyester webbing. Colors are also available as red, green, and camo collections, which helps when you color code straps by crew, truck, or load type.
Break strength is not the working load limit
The break strength listed for each roll is a failure point for new webbing, not a safe working number. Once webbing becomes a strap, its working load limit drops well below that figure and is governed by the weakest link in the assembly: the buckle, the hooks, the end stitching, or the webbing itself. Check manufacturer ratings and any DOT or jobsite requirements before you put a strap into service.
Polyester or Nylon?
Polyester and nylon webbing can look alike on the roll, but they behave differently under tension. Polyester stretches less, so it keeps a load snug. Nylon stretches more, which absorbs shock and suits recovery straps and sling fabrication, but that give is a drawback when you want a load to hold still. For stretch-based jobs, see nylon webbing.
If you need a lighter, smoother strap for bags, leashes, or shop projects, seat belt style webbing is a polyester option in a 1-15/16" width with a 6,000 lb. break strength. It is sold as raw strap material and is not a certified restraint, so leave it out of safety-critical builds.

Cut-to-Length or Full Spool
- By the foot: Good for single repairs, test builds, and one-off lengths.
- 300' roll: Better for shops that cut the same strap again and again and want consistent material on hand.
Dye lots can vary slightly, so if you need several pieces to match, cut them from the same roll.
Care and Inspection
- Inspect webbing before each use for cuts, frays, burns, melted spots, and chemical damage.
- Protect it from sharp edges and corners with a wear sleeve.
- Replace damaged webbing instead of trying to repair it.
- Store it clean and dry, away from direct sun and harsh chemicals.
Polyester Webbing FAQs
Is polyester or nylon better for tie downs?
For most tie downs, polyester. It stretches less, so cargo stays snug. Nylon makes more sense where some give is useful, such as vehicle recovery.
Can I buy polyester cargo webbing by the foot?
Yes. Each polyester listing is available by the linear foot and in 300' rolls.
Does a wider strap have a higher break strength?
In general, yes. Length does not change break strength, but width does, and some widths are offered in more than one strength. Check the listing for the exact rating.
Can I use this webbing for lifting?
Not as a do-it-yourself sling. A sling used overhead has to be built, proof tested, and tagged with a rating by the manufacturer, so pick one from our lifting sling collection.
What do I need to turn webbing into a strap?
At minimum, hardware that matches the webbing width, such as a ratchet, cam buckle, or hooks. Browse tie down hardware to build the full assembly.
