Crosby® Turnbuckles

Crosby turnbuckles are built for dependable performance in demanding rigging and tensioning applications. Manufactured from special bar forging quality steel, these heavy-duty turnbuckle assemblies are ideal for construction, tower work, suspension systems, and other jobs where strength, durability, and safety matter.

Crosby® turnbuckles meet or exceed the requirements of ASME B30.26, including identification, ductility, design factor, proof load, and temperature standards. They also deliver enhanced fatigue life, impact performance, and material traceability for added confidence on the job.

Important: Turnbuckles are recommended for straight or in-line pull only.

Crosby Turnbuckle End Fittings

Crosby turnbuckles are available in several end fitting configurations to match a variety of rigging needs:

All end fittings are quenched and tempered or normalized for added strength and long-term durability. Because end fittings carry the majority of the load in high-stress applications, this enhanced construction helps support reliable performance in demanding environments.

Why Choose Crosby Turnbuckles?

Crosby is known for engineering products that go beyond minimum standards. Their turnbuckles are designed with advanced construction features that improve strength, reduce stress, and help support safer operation.

Stress-Minimizing Thread Design

Crosby turnbuckle bodies use UNC threads, while the end fittings use a modified UNJ thread. This thread design helps reduce stress at the root of the thread, improving overall performance and helping extend service life.

Heat-Treated Forged Steel Construction

Each Crosby turnbuckle is heat treated using proprietary methods that fully develop the strength of the turnbuckle while improving the grain flow of carbon and alloy forgings. This process helps reduce the risk of catastrophic failure and supports safer jobsite performance.

As an added safety benefit, Crosby turnbuckles are designed to begin deforming under overload conditions, providing a visible warning before ultimate failure occurs.

Hot-Dip Galvanized Finish

Components feature a high-quality hot-dip galvanized finish for corrosion resistance and long-term durability, making them a dependable choice for outdoor and harsh-environment applications.

Strength Testing and Performance Standards

Crosby turnbuckles are rigorously tested to confirm reliable performance under repeated load. Each assembly is fatigue rated and tested at 1.5 times the working load limit for a minimum of 20,000 cycles. This testing helps confirm compliance with Euronorm fatigue requirements and supports longer service life in demanding applications.

  • Fatigue Test: 1.5x Working Load Limit for 20,000 cycles minimum
  • Proof Load: 2.5x Working Load Limit
  • Ultimate Load: 5x Working Load Limit

The theoretical reserve capability of each Crosby turnbuckle is at least 5 times the working load limit, based on Federal Specifications FF-T-791b, Type 1, Form 1, Class 7, and ASTM F-1145, except for provisions required of the contractor.

Stamped for Material Traceability

Every Crosby turnbuckle component is forged with the Crosby logo, size, and Product Identification Code (PIC). This PIC system helps maintain material control from the steel mill through the manufacturing process and allows each turnbuckle to be traced back to its production date and material certification.
