Description

The Simpson Strong-Tie TBG1260R1500 Strong-Drive TB Wood-to-Steel Screw with black phosphate coating is designed for high-performance fastening of wood to steel in interior, dry environments. This structural screw features a flat head with under-head nibs for clean countersinking, a #4 drill point with wings to eliminate wood splitting, and a 6-lobe recess for controlled driving torque. The black phosphate finish provides smooth driving and a clean appearance for indoor structural applications where corrosion is not a concern.

Key Features

  • Black phosphate coating for dry, interior use
  • Flat head with nibs for precise, flush countersinking
  • #4 drill point with wings for fast, clean boring through wood and into steel up to 1/4 inch thick
  • 6-lobe (T-style) drive reduces cam-out and supports efficient, consistent installation
  • Available in collated or hand-drive versions for jobsite or production line use

Applications

Ideal for fastening wood nailers, sleepers, subflooring, and other wood assemblies to steel framing in non-corrosive interior environments. Commonly used in commercial construction, trailer manufacturing, and modular building applications where strength and installation speed are priorities.

Installation

No pre-drilling is typically required. Use a compatible 6-lobe drive bit and drive the screw until the flat head sits flush or slightly recessed in the wood surface. The integrated wings bore out the wood and break off upon steel contact, allowing the #4 point to engage steel cleanly. For bulk installations, collated options are available for use with compatible auto-feed screwdrivers.

Self-Drilling Screws for Fastening Wood to Metal

These self-drilling screws feature winged tips that bore through wood and clear the path before engaging metal, ensuring clean holes and tight connections. Designed to prevent wood splitting and eliminate the need for pre-drilling, they’re ideal for framing, decking, and other wood-to-metal applications where strength and speed matter.

Self-Drilling Screws with Seemingly Unlimited Options

Our self-drilling screws come in a wide range of options to tackle everything from metal-to-metal and wood-to-metal fastening to interior framing and exterior cladding. Choose from multiple head styles, drive types, and corrosion-resistant finishes like zinc, galvanized, ceramic-coated, and stainless steel, each built for strength, speed, and long-term performance.

The Right Point for Every Project

Different point types pierce various materials. Standard points handle light- to medium-gauge metal, long points tackle thicker steel, self-piercing points work well in wood or thin metal and winged points clear softer layers before drilling harder substrates, ensuring faster, cleaner and secure installations.
