Crosby HG-227 Jaw & Eye Turnbuckles

Crosby HG-227 jaw and eye turnbuckles are built for secure, reliable tensioning in demanding rigging, marine, industrial, and construction applications. Designed for straight-line pull only, these forged turnbuckles combine high-strength construction, corrosion resistance, fatigue-rated performance, and industry-compliant design for long-term dependability.

With a jaw end on one side and an elongated eye end on the other, Crosby HG-227 turnbuckles offer installation flexibility across a wide range of connection points while maintaining the strength and quality Crosby hardware is known for.

Features of Crosby HG-227 Turnbuckles

  • Jaw and eye end fittings for versatile rigging connections
  • Forged jaw ends with secure hardware for dependable attachment
  • Elongated forged eye promotes easier assembly and more even stress distribution
  • Heat-treated components for improved strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance
  • Hot-dip galvanized finish for corrosion resistance in harsh environments
  • Modified UNJ threads on end fittings help minimize thread root stress
  • Fatigue-rated and tested for demanding load cycle performance
  • Meets or exceeds key ASME, Federal, and ASTM requirements

Jaw & Eye End Fittings

Each Crosby HG-227 turnbuckle features a forged jaw end fitting and a forged eye end fitting to support a variety of rigging and tensioning setups.

The jaw ends are designed for secure connection and simple assembly. Sizes 1/4" through 5/8" are fitted with bolts and nuts, while sizes 3/4" through 2-3/4" come with pins and cotters.

The eye ends are forged and elongated to make installation easier and help create more uniform stress distribution during loading. On most sizes, from 1/4" through 2-1/2", a shackle one size smaller can be reeved through the eye for added versatility.

Superior Construction for Reliable Performance

Crosby turnbuckles are manufactured to deliver consistent performance in heavy-duty applications. Their refined construction process helps set a higher standard for durability, safety, and long service life.

Heat-Treated Components

Load-bearing end fittings are heat-treated through either normalizing or Crosby's Quenched and Tempered® process to create harder, tougher steel. The turnbuckle body is normalized to improve impact strength and fatigue performance, helping the assembly perform under repeated loading conditions.

Hot-Dip Galvanized Corrosion Resistance

All Crosby HG-227 jaw and eye turnbuckle components are hot-dip galvanized to help resist corrosion in outdoor, marine, and other harsh service environments. This protective finish supports longer service life and dependable performance where exposure to moisture and the elements is a concern.

Stress-Minimizing Thread Design

End fittings feature a modified UNJ thread to reduce stress at the thread root and improve fatigue properties. The body uses UNC threads for smooth adjustment and reliable engagement, helping the turnbuckle maintain performance in critical applications.

Fatigue-Rated Crosby Turnbuckles

Crosby HG-227 jaw and eye turnbuckles are engineered to meet specific fatigue performance levels and are tested for repeated load applications. Each unit is subjected to rigorous performance criteria, including:

  • Minimum 20,000 cycles at 1-1/2 times the Working Load Limit (WLL)
  • Proof load: 2-1/2 times the Working Load Limit
  • Ultimate load: 5 times the Working Load Limit

This fatigue-rated design makes HG-227 turnbuckles a strong choice for applications where reliability under repeated loading is essential.

Industry Compliance & Identification

Each component is marked with the Crosby name or logo, size, and Product Identification Code (PIC) for traceability and quality control throughout the manufacturing process.

Crosby HG-227 turnbuckles meet or exceed the requirements of ASME B30.26, including identification, ductility, design factor, proof load, and temperature requirements. They also comply with Federal Specifications FF-T-791b, Type 1, Form 1, Class 8 and ASTM F-1145 (except for contractor requirements).

Important: Turnbuckles are designed for straight or in-line pull only. They should not be used in applications involving side loading.
