Description

Fast and reliable for attaching sheathing or sub-floor panels to steel framing, the Strong-Drive PPHD134B1016-4K PPHD Sheathing-to-CFS Screw is engineered to drill through panel layers and into cold-formed steel (CFS) framing without pre-drilling. With its longer #5 pilot point, fine thread design, flat head and six-lobe drive, this screw is built to deliver strong engagement, clean seating and efficient installation for professionals and DIYers alike.

Key Features

  • Self-Drilling #5 Point: Easily penetrates panel materials and CFS framing without the need for pre-drilling.
  • Fine Threads: Provides excellent pull-through resistance and strong retention in steel and wood substrates. Buttress threads available in #8 sizes for added holding power.
  • Flat Countersunk Head with 6-Lobe Drive: Ensures flush installation with reliable tool engagement using a T25 driver bit.
  • Corrosion-Resistant Coatings: Available in yellow zinc for dry interior use or Quik Guard coating for moderate exterior exposure.
  • Collated and Bulk Options: Compatible with both hand-drive and auto-feed screw-driving systems to increase speed on large jobs.

Applications

  • Attaching OSB, plywood, gypsum board or other sheathing to cold-formed steel framing in walls, floors or ceilings.
  • Installing subfloors over steel joists in residential or commercial framing.
  • Use in diaphragm-rated assemblies and structural shear walls that require fastener code compliance.
  • Ideal for both new construction and renovation projects involving steel stud or track assemblies.

Installation

  1. Select the appropriate length and diameter based on panel thickness and steel gauge to ensure proper thread engagement.
  2. Use a T25 6-lobe driver bit in a screw gun or drill with clutch control to avoid overdriving the screw head.
  3. Align screw perpendicular to the sheathing surface and drive until the head is flush with the panel material.
  4. If using collated screws, confirm compatibility with auto-feed systems and adjust feed settings as required.
  5. Choose the correct finish for the application environment. Use yellow zinc for dry interiors and Quik Guard for exposed or humid areas.
  6. Follow manufacturer spacing and pattern guidelines to meet load-bearing and code-compliant installation standards.

The Right Point for Every Project

Different point types pierce various materials. Standard points handle light- to medium-gauge metal, long points tackle thicker steel, self-piercing points work well in wood or thin metal and winged points clear softer layers before drilling harder substrates, ensuring faster, cleaner and secure installations.
