The Simpson HPTZ Hurricane Tie is a retrofit-grade connector specially crafted to meet Hawaii’s uplift resistance requirements. Designed for single-wall homes, it easily fastens wall-to-rafter assemblies without interference from blocking. Coated in durable ZMAX galvanization, it ensures long-lasting performance in corrosive or coastal environments, delivering critical wind-resistive strength where it's needed most.
Key Features
- Engineered and tested to meet Hawaii's wind resistive device requirements for uplift protection.
- Specially designed to connect the wall to the rafter while avoiding interference from blocking.
- Built from 18 gauge steel with ZMAX galvanization (G185) for enhanced corrosion resistance.
- Can be installed using Strong-Drive SD screws or nails, with one HPTZ per connection. A supplemental 1/4" x 1" SDS screw at the trim board is required.
Applications
- Ideal for retrofit use in single-wall home construction, particularly in Hawaii or in regions with high wind/salt exposure.
- Provides a reinforced wall-to-roof tie that resists uplift forces and enhances overall structural stability.
Installation
- Attach one HPTZ per connection point using Simpson Strong-Tie SD screws or 0.148" x 1-1/2" nails.
- Install an additional 1/4" x 1" Strong-Drive SDS screw at the trim board for proper anchoring.
