Description:

The Simpson Strong-Tie Strong-Drive line of structural fasteners now includes the SDWS Framing screw, designed and load-rated for replacing 16d, 10d and 8d nails in framing applications. The SDWS Framing screw is 0.160" in diameter and superior to nails in holding power and pull-out resistance. It is code listed under IAPMO UES ER-192 and meets 2009 and 2012 IRC and IBC code requirements for several common wood framing applications. The screw has a SawTooth Type-17 tip with serrated threads that makes for fast installations with reduced torque without predrilling, and its specially designed head countersinks easily to provide a clean, flush finish. The T25 bit holds the 6-lobe recess tightly, reducing cam-out and head stripping.

Excellent screws

The larger head makes these a great option over regular construction screws. We do light construction and whenever its structural, we use these. Highly recommend

Love these screws

These things are fantastic and my house is held together with several thousand of them (not joking -- I've bought 4 buckets of the 3" version so far!) They start & self-drill easier than any screws I've used before. The driver bits they come with work well and hold up well too -- my only minor complaint is that I've had a few where there seems to be too much of the coating applied to the head, partially filling the drive hole and making it difficult to fit the driver bit. The large diameter head works well to pull things together -- but the screws are also strong enough to countersink the head when necessary (ie "toenail" use). Unlike random no-name screws, these ones also have the code approvals to be used structurally instead of nails -- the Simpson site has lots of documentation on this.

Great service and super fast shipping!

As a carpenter and General Contractor, these fasteners really come in handy for all kinds of projects, especially since they are accepted code-wise for use in framing as an alternative to 16d nails. However, I still use nails in conjunction with these framing screws. Typically I screw framing into place, such as plates, then fall back and nail everything off. Which is great because if something needs to be moved, just unscrew the member and move it before nailing it off.

With regard to this company, Fasteners Plus, they have been great! Huge selection, easy ordering process and super fast economical shipping. It’s a win-win for me. Thank you.

Finally a much better screw design

Even with the large dia. flat head design these screws will easily countersink themselves and require no pre-drilling unless going into the end of the board !
