Specifications

Finish: G90 Galvanized
Material: Carbon Steel
Manufacturer name: Simpson Strong-Tie
Thickness: 18 Gauge
Description

The PFPS post-frame purlin splice connector offers a streamlined, efficient way to join roof purlins end-to-end in post-frame construction. It eliminates the need for overlapping or offsetting purlins, keeps them aligned in a straight run, and helps reduce material waste and labor time.

Key Features

  • Eliminates overlapped purlins, enabling use of shorter, lower-cost stock
  • Maintains continuous alignment of purlins to improve fastener alignment and reduce installation errors
  • Can reduce installed fasteners by up to four per connector when using a minimum fastener pattern (lower labor cost without sacrificing code compliance)
  • Supports both nail and screw fastening with tested load values
  • Unique geometry allows connectors to be doubled for added load capacity where necessary
  • Constructed from 18?gauge steel with a G90 galvanized finish for durability and corrosion resistance

Applications

  • Ideal for post-frame building roofing systems where long purlins must be spliced
  • Use in gable roofs and other roof layouts requiring aligned purlin runs
  • Suitable for residential, agricultural, and light commercial structures
  • Especially effective in projects focusing on minimizing material cost and streamlining installation

Installation Tips

  1. Use all specified fasteners in the pattern shown in the engineering documents.
  2. The minimum purlin size is 2×4; maximum size is 2×6.
  3. Install each PFPS connector centered about the splice location (±1/8 in) for optimal load transfer.
  4. The larger 2-7/8 in flange may be oriented on either the down-slope or up-slope face of the purlin.
  5. Where greater capacity is needed, install PFPS connectors in pairs (double up).
  6. Ensure connector alignment is plumb to avoid unintended bending or twisting forces.
  7. Review load tables and code ratings prior to installation to confirm suitability for your design.

NOTE: The correct fasteners installed in the correct position must be used to achieve published load values
