A wire rope sling handles a wide range of lifting and rigging work, from static support to direct attachment on a crane for moving heavy-duty loads. Adding a swage socket to the end of the wire rope extends what that sling can do, giving you a fitted connection point built specifically for heavy-duty applications.

What Makes a Swage Socket Different

The name comes from how the socket goes on: a swager, essentially a hydraulic machine paired with specialized dies, presses the socket onto the wire rope. That process pays off in two ways. It holds up better against fatigue right where the cable meets the socket, a point that tends to be the weak spot in other termination methods, and when fitted correctly, it preserves 95-100% of the rope's original strength, so you're not sacrificing capacity for the added functionality.

Sizing and Configuration Options

Swage sockets fit wire rope slings from ¼" to 1-1/2" in diameter, so you can match the socket to the capacity and working load limit your project actually needs. From there, three end configurations cover different rigging needs:

Open & Open

Both ends carry an open socket with a pin, ready to attach directly to another fitting or a hook block for a crane lift.

Closed & Closed

Both ends carry a closed socket with a hole sized for a bolt or pin, giving you a fixed connection point at each end of the assembly.

Open & Closed

One end open with a pin, one end closed with a hole. Mixing the two gives the assembly more flexibility, since each end can connect to a different type of fitting.
