Description

The Simpson Strong-Tie SCBH Concealed Beam Hanger is designed for high-capacity beam-to-column connections in mass timber construction. Its concealed design enhances architectural aesthetics and provides fire-rated performance, making it ideal for projects requiring both strength and visual appeal.

Key Features:

  • High Load Capacity: Engineered to support substantial loads in mass timber applications.
  • Concealed Design: Hidden connections maintain clean architectural lines.
  • Fire-Rated Performance: Achieves one- and two-hour fire resistance ratings per ASTM E119.
  • Seismic Compatibility: Designed to accommodate joint rotation due to seismic forces and inter-story drift.
  • Material & Finish: Constructed from steel with electrogalvanized finish; SCBH-W backplate features gray paint finish.

Applications:

  • Glulam beam-to-column connections in mass timber construction.
  • Projects requiring concealed connections for aesthetic or fire-resistance purposes.
  • Suitable for use in high-seismic regions.

Installation:

  • Use all specified fasteners; install horizontal screws first, followed by inclined screws.
  • Centerline notch at the top of the part aids in locating the connector on the wood member.
  • Predrilling lead holes for the SDCF screws is recommended if wood members tend to split or if driving the SDCF fasteners at the proper angle is difficult due to wood grain resistance.
  • Rout carried and/or carrying member according to application needs.
  • Ensure backplates seat flush against the surfaces to which they are being fastened.
  • A 1/8" minimum to 1/4" maximum gap is recommended between the carried and carrying members to prevent wood-wood binding during field assembly.
  • Fire sealant is required at the SCBH connection location when considering fire resistance.
