Big Grip Dead Ends
A guyed structure like a communications, transmission, or antenna tower needs a reliable termination point at the end of each guy wire strand. Big grip dead ends, also called preforms, create that termination on Extra High Strength (EHS) guy wire.
Matching and Installing a Dead End
A big grip dead end has to match the lay configuration of the guy wire strand it's going on. Installed correctly, it delivers the same Rated Holding Strength (RHS) as the guy wire itself, so the termination doesn't become the weak point in the system. Secure the installation with an ice clip. These grips install quickly without tools, and they're single-use equipment, though one can be re-applied within 90 days of the original installation if re-tensioning is required.
Reading the Dead End

- Identification tape: shows the catalog number and nominal sizes.
- Color code and length: identifies the strand size.
- Cross-over marks: identify the starting point for application.
- Short leg and long leg: the short leg should be applied first during installation.
