Sling Protection for Chain Slings

Chain slings are built from high-strength alloy steel, but that doesn't mean they're exempt from sling protection requirements. ASME B30.9 (2021) 9-5.10.4(d) applies just as much here:

"Slings in contact with edges, corners, protrusions, or abrasive surfaces shall be protected with a material of sufficient strength, thickness, and construction to prevent damage." - ASME B30.9 (2021) 9-5.10.4(d)

Chain sling protection also works both ways: it protects your load from the chain, not just the chain from the load.

Types of Sling Protection for Chain Slings

We carry several styles to match your application and cargo. Wear pads come in nylon or Cordura®. Both offer general protection, but Cordura® is the pick if abrasion resistance matters for your job.

Heavy-Duty LiftGuard™ Chain Sling Protection

LiftGuard™ protectors attach to your load with recessed magnets, so the protection stays exactly where you put it. The high-performance cast nylon construction handles a wide temperature range, from -20°F to 220°F, and the heavy-duty style is built specifically for use with chain slings.

Tubular Wear Pads

Of the three wear pad styles, tubular sleeves hold up longest. Their construction lets you shift the point of contact with each load, so the same spot isn't taking all the wear over time. They attach with Velcro®, making them easy to reposition.

Quick Sleeve Wear Pads

Quick sleeves work like tubular pads and also attach with Velcro®, just in a different shape. They slide easily up and down your sling, which makes both setup and inspection simpler.

Sewn Sleeve Wear Pads

Sewn sleeves are the right call for long-term use on one sling. Both sides are sewn together, which makes them harder to move between slings but keeps them securely in place over time.
