Class 1 Self-Retracting Lifelines

Class 1 Self-Retracting Lifelines

Class 1 SRLs are intended for work where the anchor point sits at or above the user's dorsal D-ring, such as an overhead beam, a structural member above the work area, or a ceiling-mounted anchor. If that matches your setup, a Class 1 unit gives you the freedom to move while the line retracts and pays out automatically.

When Class 1 Is the Right Fit

• The anchor can be placed overhead, at or above the harness D-ring.
• There is no leading edge exposure, meaning the line will not be pulled over an unprotected edge in a fall.
• The worker needs steady mobility across a work zone rather than a fixed-length tie-off.

If the anchor will be below the D-ring, or the line may cross an edge, step up to a Class 2 leading edge SRL instead.

What the Classification Means

Under the ANSI standard, a device earns a class by meeting performance limits for factors like arrest force, arrest distance, and static strength. Treat the class marked on the label as a starting point, then verify the manufacturer's instructions for your anchor location and conditions.

SRL Types

• SRL: the standard housing that connects at the anchor and brakes the line during a fall.
• SRL-P: a compact unit worn on the harness, also known as a personal fall limiter.
• SRL-R: a unit that adds rescue and retrieval features.

Options to Explore

Our Class 1 selection includes cable and web models in several lengths. Examples include the FallTech Contractor C 30' cable SRL, the FallTech Mini 6' web SRL, and the 3M DBI-SALA 50' Ultra-Lok cable SRL. Compare cable and synthetic lifelines to decide which material suits your work.

Build the Rest of Your System
