Seat Belt Webbing
Seat Belt Style Webbing for Custom Straps and Projects
Seat belt style webbing is a tightly woven polyester strap material with a smooth surface and low stretch. It is a popular pick for shop-built tie downs, bag and gear straps, tool hangers, and general repairs where you want a strong, flexible strap that handles easily. Ours is a 5 panel weave made in the USA, sold in a 300' roll.

What to Make With It
Custom tie downs and ratchet straps
Pair the webbing with ratchet and cam buckles and the hooks that suit your load, such as flat and snap hooks or wire, grab, and S hooks, to build straps for trailers, equipment, boats, and bikes. Building for a track system? Start with E-track or L-track fittings. Because this webbing is 1-15/16" wide, which is slightly under 2", check that your hardware is made to fit it before you order.
Bags, gear, and home projects
- Replacement handles and shoulder straps for bags, backpacks, and camera gear
- Carry straps and handles for tools, totes, and equipment
- Hangers for tools and storage in a garage or shed
- Custom-length leashes and lead straps
- Repairs to tent loops, covers, and similar gear
Polyester is generally resistant to rot, mildew, and fading, which helps when straps live in a truck, barn, or outdoor storage.
Where Not to Use It
Seat belt style webbing is raw material, not a certified safety component. Do not use it for vehicle restraints, fall protection, personal flotation, or any overhead lifting. For lifting, use a sling that is manufactured and rated for it. Break strength is also not a working load: a finished strap is rated lower, and the hardware and construction determine the final rating. Check manufacturer ratings before you put a strap you made into service.
Need Different Specs?
- More widths and break strengths: browse polyester cargo webbing, which runs from 1" to 4" wide.
- A strap with give, for shock loads and recovery: see nylon webbing.
- All webbing in one place: shop the full webbing category.
Care and Inspection
- Check for cuts, frays, burns, and melted spots before each use.
- Protect webbing from sharp edges, or add a wear sleeve.
- Replace any damaged webbing.
- Keep rolls and finished straps dry and shaded when they are not in use.
