316 Stainless Steel Proof Coil Chain

Type 316 stainless steel proof coil chain is a Grade 30, light-to-medium duty chain built for marine and other high-corrosion environments. It contains molybdenum, which gives it stronger resistance to chlorides than standard 304 stainless, making it the right choice around saltwater mist, spray, and other harsh moisture exposure.

T316 proof coil chain also has a smooth finish, which makes it comfortable to hand-pull for jobs like setting boat anchors or working it as a tie-down chain.

For general-purpose corrosion resistance in less extreme conditions, we also stock T304 stainless proof coil chain. T304 resists everyday rust and oxidation but isn't the right choice for extreme chloride exposure like seawater.

Grade 30 proof coil chain links are embossed with 3, 30, or 300, and sometimes marked L3, to identify the grade.

Grade 30 chain, including T316 stainless, is not approved for overhead lifting. Use it for tie-down and general-purpose applications only.

More Chain Grade Options

With many chain options available, it's important to know the differences between grades of chain to ensure you select the proper chain for your application. Every grade of chain has different uses but can generally be separated into three main categories: overhead lifting chain, transport chain, and other welded industrial chain types.

Check out our chain category page for more information on the different grades available, including Grade 70, Grade 80, Grade 100, and Grade 120.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose T316 over T304 stainless chain?
T316 contains added molybdenum, which gives it stronger resistance to chlorides, making it the better choice in marine environments or heavy saltwater exposure. T304 is a solid choice for general outdoor use and low-to-moderate corrosive conditions.

Is T316 stainless proof coil chain approved for overhead lifting?
No. Grade 30 chain, including T316 stainless, is not approved for overhead lifting. For lifting and sling applications, shop Grade 80, Grade 100, or Grade 120 chain.

What sizes does T316 stainless proof coil chain come in?
We stock T316 stainless proof coil chain by the foot in nine diameters: 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", and 1".
