Lifting Beams
Lifting beams are a core piece of below-the-hook rigging equipment, built to lift and move heavy loads with stability and control from a single overhead pick point. You'll find them doing precision lifting work across construction, manufacturing, logistics, and shipyard operations wherever a controlled, single-point lift is the right call.
We carry fixed lifting beams, adjustable lifting beams, and specialty lifting beams from M&W and Caldwell Dura-Lite, covering capacities and spreads for structural steel, shipping containers, batteries, and other loads that need a dedicated beam. If you're weighing a lifting beam against a spreader bar for your lift, our Lifting Beams & Spreader Bars overview breaks down the difference.
How a Lifting Beam Works
A lifting beam carries the load from one central pick point at the top, with one or more attachment points along the bottom for your rigging. That single-point design is what makes lifting beams the better fit for low-headroom jobs, since the beam connects straight to the crane hook without adding much extra height to the lift.
Each beam is built around reinforced steel or engineered composite construction, with welded or fabricated connection points sized for sling, shackle, and hook hardware.
Types of Lifting Beams
Fixed Lifting Beams
Fixed lifting beams hold a set, non-adjustable spread, which makes them a solid choice when you're lifting the same load configuration repeatedly, such as steel plate, precast concrete, or machinery that calls for a consistent, rigid spread.
Adjustable Lifting Beams
An adjustable lifting beam gives you multiple lifting points so you can change the spread as the load changes, which is useful in construction, fabrication, and manufacturing where load sizes vary job to job. We also carry an adjustable low headroom lifting beam option for tight-clearance work that still needs adjustable spread.
Specialty Lifting Beams
For applications that need more than a standard fixed or adjustable beam, our specialty lineup includes:
- Basket Lifting Beams – Cradles fragile or unbalanced loads for more even weight distribution.
- Container Lifting Beams – Four-point beams sized for lifting containers and similar bulk loads.
- Non-Conductive Lifting Beams – Built for electrical hazard environments such as power plants, substations, and utility work, and well-suited to handling large batteries.
- Plate Lifting Beams – Engineered to lift steel plate and sheet metal without bending or warping.
Materials and Construction
Our lifting beams are built for heavy-duty use, in reinforced steel (M&W) and lightweight, powder-coated composite construction (Caldwell Dura-Lite) for added corrosion resistance. M&W and Caldwell Dura-Lite beams are built to meet ASME B30.20 and are proof tested, with certification paperwork included. Always confirm the working load limit and documentation for your specific model, and check current code and inspection requirements with your local authority or a qualified professional.
